Piiti Blomqvist (b. 1998)
I am a Helsinki-based artist mainly working with ceramics and different painting and drawing media. I have graduated from Pekka Halonen Academy of Arts, since then my work has been exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in Galleria Uusi Kipinä, Kosminen, Bar9, Asbestos Art Space and more. My work can also be seen in restaurants such as Madonna, Holiday and Yes Yes Yes.
The themes in my work are often centered around girlhood: exploring love, heartbreak, insecurity and trauma, with a touch of mischievous diva-energy. I draw inspiration from my own queer-identity as well as animals and beautiful everyday objects. I am endlessly intrigued by the juxtaposition of innocence and evil, which is manifested in my work through animals enjoying human vices. I deeply value beauty and want to include it in my work by creating visually strong and playful works about complex and difficult emotions. Through romanticization these emotions are easier to deal with, for the viewer too, I hope.
